DrainDispatch is a referral service, not a plumbing contractor. We connect homeowners with independent, licensed plumbing contractors through our partner network. We do not perform plumbing work, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call. Calls are routed on partner coverage and bids, not on a quality ranking.

A drain that blocks once is a clog. A drain that blocks on a cycle is a symptom. Somewhere in that line there is a physical reason the blockage keeps forming in the same place — and clearing it again without finding out why is paying repeatedly for the same afternoon.

How a contractor actually diagnoses it

  1. They ask for the interval. Weekly, monthly and annual cycles point at different causes.
  2. They ask what came back on the cable last time. Roots, grease and paper each tell a different story.
  3. They camera the line after clearing — this is the step that gets skipped, and it is the only one that answers the question.
  4. They locate any defect from the surface so a repair can be priced properly.

Three ways this actually fails

A belly holding water

A section that no longer runs downhill. Solids settle in the low spot every time and rebuild the blockage. Cleaning resets it; nothing else changes.

Root intrusion at a defect

Predictable seasonal cycle. Cutting the mat buys months, not years.

Sustained grease or scale loading

The line narrows faster than normal use can flush it. Common in kitchen branches and in hard-water regions.

Questions people ask

How do I find recurring clogs near me?

Call the number on this page and give us your town or ZIP code. We match it against partner coverage and connect you with an independent licensed contractor who works that area. We do not charge you anything — the contractor sets their own price.

Why does the clog come back after snaking?

Because a cable opens a channel through the blockage without removing what is causing it to form. If there is a belly, a root defect or heavy coating, the channel refills.

How many times should I clear it before investigating?

Once is normal. Twice in a year is the point to camera it. Three times is paying for the same information you could have bought the first time.

Is jetting the answer?

Often it helps a lot — it removes coating rather than boring through it. But if the cause is a belly or a break, jetting is a longer delay rather than a fix.

What is a belly and can it be fixed?

A section of pipe that has sagged so it no longer falls toward the sewer. It is fixed by excavating and re-laying that section, which is why establishing it with a camera before quoting matters so much.

Could it be the way the plumbing was installed?

Yes. A branch with insufficient fall, too many tight bends, or an undersized run will block repeatedly from new, regardless of habits.

Does anything prevent recurrence?

Where the cause is loading rather than structure, enzyme maintenance and simple habit changes genuinely extend the interval. Where the cause is structural, nothing prevents it but repair.

How do I know which one I have?

A camera. There is no reliable way to tell a belly from a grease coating from the surface, and anyone quoting an excavation without one is guessing.
